BEA Festival of Media Arts "Acceptance Rates"

Acceptance rates are shown for Best of Festival and Best of Competition winners in the faculty competitions.  To understand the figures listed below, look at the Faculty Audio Competition for 2. Winning a Best of Festival award in the Faculty Audio Competition placed the entry in the top 4.7% of all entries in the category. This was based on there being 21 entries in the competition and only one Best of Festival Award was given out. (Thus, achieving a top 4.7% acceptance).

Faculty entries are evaluated in a blind review process, similar to published research articles. A Festival Competition Chair, who coordinates each specific competition category, works with faculty and professionals across the nation to "jury" the work. The Festival Review Board has been organized and operates like an editorial board for a scholarly refereed journal. People making up the review board constitute a large group of nationally recognized professionals and professors, who may be organized into panels, for judging individual faculty entries. Individual entries are sent to the judges, by the Festival Competition Chair (drop co-chair), much like research articles are sent to the reviewers. |

The BEA Festival Committee feels these acceptance rates are equal to or better than the acceptance rates of the top journals in our field. The peer review process is rigorous and winning entries in this competition represent truly outstanding work in our discipline that is nationally reviewed, recognized and exhibited.
